Accelerated Stereotactic Partial Breast Radiotherapy: What Is It?

Accelerated Stereotactic Partial Breast Radiotherapy is the technical name for one of the most significant advances in the treatment of breast cancer in recent years. More simply named MammoFocus™, the therapy is pain free, has no cosmetic drawbacks, and has a documented success rate.

Over the past 30 years, the treatment of breast cancer has evolved significantly. While a modified radical mastectomy was the routine method of treatment, breast conservation alternatives are the standard of care today. Breast conservation therapy includes using radiotherapy (radiation) after the patient has undergone a lumpectomy.

The practice of radiotherapy has also evolved. Initially, it was thought the entire breast must be treated with radiation. However, advances in research and technology led to targeting only the tumor bed, thus sparing healthy tissue from the effects of radiation.
